Transport arm of Global Shipping Services in administration

  • 06 December 2013
  • By Chris Tindall

The road transport and warehousing arm of the East Yorkshire-based Global Shipping Services group has entered administration.

Leonard Curtis was appointed to Global Shipping Services Logistics on 22 November, but according to a spokesman for the company, the remaining companies continue to trade.

These include vehicle and cargo handling arms, a freight forwarding division and a real estate business.

However, a meeting of creditors of Global Shipping Services Freight Forwarding has been scheduled to take place on 17 December to discuss the appointment of a liquidator.

The spokesman was unable to comment further.

According to Vosa records, the logistics business had four operating centres in Grimsby, Goole and Hull and was authorised to operate a total of 100 vehicles and 170 trailers.

In the last available set of accounts for Global Shipping Services Logistics, for the year ending 31 December 2012, the company reported a turnover of £9.92m, but a pre-tax loss of £1.58m.

The report added: “There are no material uncertainties that may cast significant doubt about the ability of the company to continue as a going concern that may have been identified by the directors.”

Leonard Curtis did not respond as we went to press.
