M5 closed after fatal accident involving three CVs

Part of the southbound carriageway of the M5 in Gloucestershire remains closed following a fatal accident involving three commercial vehicles this morning (29 October).

The Highways Agency (HA) estimates that the road between junction 13 (Stroud) and junction 14 (Thornbury) will not open until at least 2pm, following an incident involving two articulated trucks and a van at around 4am, near Michaelwood Services.

Avon and Somerset Constabulary has confirmed that one of the truck drivers has died. A spokesman was unable to reveal the operators involved.

The HA has advised operators to check traffic conditions before heading out and drivers are being diverted via the A38 southbound, to rejoin the M5 at junction 14. The Northbound carriageway is unaffected.
