Do more than tick DCPC box at CV Show 2012

Driver CPC should not be treated as a ‘tick the box’ exercise but seen as a managed process to drive out avoidable cost, according to AA Drivetech. The company is using the CV Show (stand 3C52) to showcase its expanded range of approved Driver CPC courses that include a mix of classroom and in-cab training.

“We want our courses to deliver real business benefits and not just tick the Driver CPC box”, says Jason Vallint, director of AA DriveTech’s Commercial and Passenger Vehicle Division. “A tailored approach can reduce third party claims, fuel cost and maintenance, so the training pays for itself.”

Research among 200 drivers of commercial and passenger vehicles by AA Drivetech has found that 29% believed they were responsible for their own career development, while 41% thought it was their employers’ responsibility.

Attitudes among the driver towards the Driver CPC were unsurprisingly generally negative and much work remains to be done to convince them of its potential benefits. AA Drivetech has recently acquired Nationwide Training, adding 4×4 and offroad training to its portfolio.

Also on show will be the AA’s 1905 Renault Phaeton veteran car which has the number plate AA1 and is insured for £1m.
