Eco-tyres take centre stage at CV Show 2012

While low rolling resistance tyres have been slow to catch on, Bridgestone will make its latest Ecopia II energy saving tyre range a centrepiece at the CV Show (stand 3B40).

Bridgestone, which claimed market leadership in the UK new and retread truck tyre market in 2011, says it can now prove that Ecopia II offers the best balance between fuel savings and durability. Mercedes-Benz is convinced – it is fitting Ecopia II on its new Actros – and trial with UK long haul fleets are encouraging.

The new Ecopia II drive axle tyre that replaces the ultra long life M729 for example has an all-new tread pattern, smaller tread depth and harder rubber compound to reduce rolling resistance without affecting grip or mileage.

All Bridgestone tyres are now built for two lives, with a second life as a Bandag retread following its first life if the casing is undamaged.

On its stand at the show, Bridgestone will be running free seminars on wheel security, fuel efficiency and tyre maintenance.

Bridgestone is currently testing an automatic tyre pressure monitoring system with one CV and one PCV operator. Sensors mounted in the valve assembly send tyre pressures to receiver posts on the depot gates so they can be read remotely every time the vehicle enters or leaves.
