Simarco buys aero trucks as volumes surge

Simarco has taken delivery of three new aerodynamic lorries to cope with a surge in domestic and international volumes, with a further batch to be phased-in throughout 2012.

The logistics firm has also secured permission to increase its O-licence by 20% at its headquarters in Witham, Essex, to 30 vehicles and 15 trailers.

The new vehicles, two Volvo FL260s and one Volvo FM330, have been fitted with aerodynamic bodies designed and built by Colliers of Maldon. One will be painted in Simarco’s green livery, and two will be liveried in Palletforce orange.

SImarco says the combined engines and bodies of the new vehicles will significantly reduce fuel consumption, while cutting CO2 emissions by around 35%.

The company’s transport director Nina Hart says: “We have always been conscious of the need to keep any environmental impact resulting from our business to an absolute minimum. We will be looking to acquire additional eco-friendly lorries and trailers in the coming months to help us deal with greater freight volumes.”

She adds that the Volvos will be the first aerodynamic vehicles operating within the Palletforce network, of which Simarco is a shareholder member.

Simarco operates from hubs in Witham, Manchester, Liverpool, Northamptonshire’s Wellinborough and a new site in Barton-under-Needwood, Staffs, which the company says is providing a significant boost to freight volumes.
