Truck registrations continue to rise

Truck registrations continued their upward trend in October: up 33% year-on-year to 4,210, according to data released by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT). In the rolling year, truck registrations increased 28.3% to 40,710.

SMMT chief executive Paul Everitt says: “The commercial vehicle market remains buoyant. Efficiency is a key driver as operators are investing in the latest models across almost every market sector to reap the rewards of greater load carrying ability and fuel economy. These remain challenging economic conditions and we are looking to the Chancellor’s Autumn Statement later this month to set out measures to boost growth and steady business confidence.”

Registrations of two-axle artics were up 15.9%, while those of three-axle artics were up 35.9%. Rigids were up nearly 40%. All the truck manufacturers have experienced significant double-digit growth in registrations in the year to date, with the exception of Iveco and Isuzu, which posted single-digit growth.

Registrations of vans up to 3.5 tonnes rose 6.7% to 19,370 in October, and by 18.2% in the rolling year to 255,268.
