Cornwall-based Bude Skip Hire has been ordered to pay a total of £5,940 after it pleaded guilty to a total of five illegal waste offences.

In an Environment Agency (EA) prosecution, Barnstaple Magistrates Court was told how in November 2009 officers visited the Dinscott Tank and Military Collection near Bude to investigate reports of illegal waste.

Officers discovered that the company had deposited large quantities of waste at the site. The waste was contaminated with non-inert materials including plastic, glass, wood and metal.

Bude Skip Hire operates a waste transfer station at nearby Dinscott Farm, where it recovers, re-uses and disposes of various non-hazardous wastes.

Further checks showed that Bude Skip Hire had also supplied controlled waste to an exempt site at Halls Farm, Stibb that lies in an area of outstanding natural beauty.

Material deposited at the farm was found to be contaminated with non-inert waste including plastic milk bottles, glass drinks bottles and wood.

Bude Skip Hire was fined a total of £2,940 and ordered to pay £3,000 costs after pleading guilty to five offences under the Environmental Permitting Regulations.
