H&H Distribution joins the Fortec pallet network

Oxfordshire-based HH Distribution has joined Fortec, marking the first time the family firm has been in a pallet network.

Based on the Watlington Industrial Estate, the business was set up in 1970 by Gerald Hollis. These days it has two sites in the town and employs 20 people, operating a fleet of 12 vehicles. Turnover this year is forecast to reach £2.7m.

The company specialises in the distribution of long life ambient foods including honey, marshmallows, chutney, cocoa powder and salad dressing. Its customers include Tesco, Rowse, Fiddes Payne and the Real Organic Foods Company.

Prior to joining, Neil Hollis, director at the firm and son of the founder, conceded he had concerns as to whether Fortec would be able to meet the stringent times delivery slots it works to. However, the network and its members have delivered, and Hollis said membership had enhanced the flexibility of the HH service, as goods can now be sent as frequently as necessary.

Hollis said: “It is early days but so far I can see the advantages. Fortec works with a similar mindset to us, as do its licencees.

“The level of communication and support from Fortec and the licensees has been excellent. Further to this we have cut our diesel costs and I have been able to concentrate on fuller loads,” he added.

HH Distribution is covering parts of the HP, RG and OX postcodes for the network.

Both Nexis Services and Border Traffic have recently joined the Fortec network.
