9 years later L’Oréal receives a makeover extension at Trafford Park

International property and construction consultants, sbh, have been appointed by L’Oréal UK Ltd to build new storage and distribution facilities at its Trafford Park site in Manchester. sbh project managed the original build at Trafford Park nearly a decade ago, and will now work with Chalcroft Construction to complete the £2 million extension by the end of July 2013.

The work will see L’Oréal’s existing 22,000 m2 warehouse and distribution center increase by an additional 5,000 m2, which will help the cosmetics company to further increase its logistics capabilities.

Acting as tenant’s agent, sbh will ensure that the construction and fit out is completed to the correct specifications, including the installation of gas fired heating, ESFR sprinkler system, installation of racking, and extending the existing CCTV system.

The construction work follows significant investment in Greater Manchester by L’Oréal over a period of more than 30 years allowing the company to retain access to a pool of skilled logistics staff in a location with excellent road links and transport facilities.

Commenting on the project, Chris Berry, sbh Director, said: ‘When preparing the specification sbh took care to ensure that the development meets L’Oréal’s sustainable objectives. This includes sustainable features such as Fluorescent lighting with motion detection and daylight compensation and transparent smoke vents to enhance natural lighting that will reduce energy consumption by up to 45% as well as cutting operating costs.’

SBH_HIRESStephan Coutelen, Country Operations Director at L’Oreal said: ‘L’Oreal UK is firmly committed to reducing our environmental footprint. Since 2009, all of our UK distribution centers have run off renewable electricity resulting in a reduction of carbon emissions associated with these sites by 80%. In addition recent efficiency projects have delivered improved performance in waste and water consumption, and our Trafford Park and Bury Distribution Centers are certified to the international standard for Environmental Management, ISO 14001.’

Chris Berry added: ‘The extension project formed part of a long-term expansion vision. The original 22,000 m² warehouse that was designed and project managed by sbh 9 years ago was planned, in terms of steel frame, foundations and external site layout, to accept an extension at some stage during the lease term, with the appropriate lease clauses included to allow the works to be undertaken.’
